Jones is one of the final four undefeated billiard player at Seminole Florida Pro Tour ar Bankshot Billiards in Jacksonville, FL.

The Seminole Pro Tour’s October 10-12 event has wound down to its final 12 players, with a winner to be crowned Sunday. This event is being hosted by Bankshot Billiards in Jacksonville, FL, and boasts a $10,000-added prize purse.

In the winners’ bracket, Jeremy “Double J” Jones survived a hill-hill bout with Bobby Garza to advance to play Jonathan “Hennessee From Tennessee” Pinegar, who had just sent Steve Moore to the left side in another double-hill match. Jones easily handled Pinegar, sending him to follow Moore 8-3. Jones’ next opponent will be Neil Fujiwara, who bested first David Howard 7-5 and then Jerry Calderone 8-6.

In the other winners’-bracket match, Gabe Owen and Tommy Kennedy, both former U.S. Open champs, will play. Owen came through with two easy wins, defeating James Roberts 7-3 and Dave Grossman 8-3, while Kennedy had to face down Hunter Lombardo 7-5 and then John Ditoro 8-2.

In the elimination rounds, Moore is still alive and will fight Ditoro Sunday morning. Lombardo will play Pinegar, Tony Crosby plays Jerry Calderone, and David Broxson will meet Dave Grossman.

In the race for Player of the Year, Corey Deuel held a big lead going into this event, with the only contender being in the form of Steve Moore. With Deuel making an early exit, Moore has a chance to take the Player of the Year honors—but he will have to win the event.

Moore served the only shutout during the last round to Darrin Brown. The Seminole Florida Pro Tour billiard tournament is being hosted by Bankshot Billiards in Jacksonville, FL.

The second round of the winners’-bracket matches has wrapped up at the Seminole Pro Tour’s Jacksonville, FL, stop. Hosted by Bankshot Billiards, this $10,000-added event boasted a field of 48.

There have been no eliminations yet, but early favorites such as Steve Moore, Gabe Owen, Tony Crosby, Hunter Lombardo, and Jeremy Jones have all advanced after the second round of the winners’-side matches. Moore advanced with a 7-0 shut-out over Darrin Brown and will next play Johnathan Pinegar, who bested Ron Park 7-1.

Owen, who sent Corey Deuel west in the first round Friday 7-5, defeated George McClanahan 7-4 and next meets James Roberts, who survived a hill-hill bout with David Walters. Crosby sent Larry Gale west 7-5 and will next play Dave Grossman, who just defeated Mark Coats 7-4.

Lombardo easily handled Tony Ruberto 7-3 and advances to meet Walter Blacker, who just sent Tommy Kennedy to the left side of the chart 7-4. Jones, who received a first-round bye, bested Tom Mittnight 7-5 in the second round and will next play Bobby Garza.

Philippines Billiard Team Powers on to the Semis

They Face USA While England Play China

Quarter Finals 

Philippines 9 – 2 Japan

The billiards team from the Philippines will face the billiard team from the USA in the next round.

Pre-tournament favorites the Philippines underlined their status as they overwhelmed the Japanese duo of Satoshi Kawabata and Naoyuki Oi to secure a semi final match against the USA on Sunday afternoon.

Francisco Bustamante, a winner of this event along with Efren Reyes in 2006, was partnered by WPA No.1 ranked player Dennis Orcollo and both players showed sufficient firepower to reach the last four with ease.

The teams shared the opening two racks but Philippines edged ahead in the third. Orcollo came up with a dry break in the fourth but that did not matter as Oi missed the 2-ball as the Philippines moved 3-1 ahead.

Philippines were given ball-in-hand in the fifth but could not capitalise as Japan kept the match tight at 3-2. However, that was as good as it got for the Japanese as Philippines took control from then on.

Orcollo broke from the right side of the table in the seventh but it turned out to be his third dry break of the match. A nice pot on the 1 ball set things up for Japan. Kawabata though over ran the cue ball going from 8 to 9 and Oi missed the tough cut on the 9. The Philippines downed the 9 to go 5-2 ahead.

A thunderous Bustamante break left a good looking table but Orcollo missed the 1 ball. Japan were hooked though and fouled trying to make contact. With ball in hand, the Philippines stormed into a 6-2 lead.

They took the next from the break and then Orcollo played a delicate nudge on the 1 ball into the centre pocket to give his team a great chance to reach the hill. Looking in control, Bustamante and Orcollo ran out to reach the hill at 8-2.

A dry break from Orcollo saw Japan have a last gasp attempt to salvage the match. A safety saw Bustamante mess up on the 1 ball and offer Kawabata a chancy 1/9 combo.

He missed and left a 2/9 in the bottom left corner. Orcollo knocked in the long 1 ball and his partner completed the combination to put Team Philippines into the semi-finals where they will meet Team USA.

Quarter Finals

USA 9 – 7 Austria

AMERICA reached the semi-finals of the 2008 PartyPoker.net World Cup of Pool for the second time in three years.

The pairing of Rodney Morris and Shane Van Boening defeated Austria 9-7 in a hard-fought encounter and will now meet either the Philippines in the semi-finals on Sunday.

Morris who was in the American side that lost in the 2006 final to the Philippines, and hopes to go one better this time.

“Against Austria was our toughest match because we didn’t break the balls well,” said Morris. “Shane didn’t make a ball once and they broke really well.

“There was no reason to expect them to scratch at the end so we got very lucky. The match was what we expected but the way we played made it tough.

“We want to be the first US team to win this and I don’t know how many times I’m going to get invited back so I definitely want to win it this time.

“Anytime you get towards the end of the tournament you have history with the players because it’s usually someone that you’ve played a lot and there is an aspect of revenge.”

The USA took the opener but failed on their break shot but Jasmin Ouschan missed a long 1 ball and the USA chose to play safe. The rack went a bit scrappy but it was Austria who completed the clearance to level the score at 1-1.

Austria took the next but scratched in the fourth rack to give ball in hand to the Americans. They cleared until Morris missed on the 6 ball but van Boening retrieved the situation with a great snooker. Ouschan made good contact but left it on and the Americans levelled it at 2-2.

Two balls dropped on the break but with no shot on the 2 ball, Van Boening laid another snooker. It gave the onus to the USA and they ran out to go into a 3-2 lead.

An illegal break got Austria back to the table and they completed a nice run out to level the score.

A decent break shot from Kempter spread the table and the Austrian pair cleared to take the lead at 4-3, but the break in the next was dry. The Austrians got back to the table but a weak safety from Kempter on the brown 7 gifted a chance to the USA and they took it to restore parity.

Morris, who had switched sides on his break shot earlier in the game, stuck with it but endured another dry break. Both sides had visits but with the remaining six balls clustered in a corner of the table, Kempter failed to get out of a snooker and with ball in hand, the USA restored their lead at 5-4.

Yet another dry break, this one from Van Boening, gave Austria a chance but a heavy handed snooker attempt by Ouschan let the Americans back in but Van Boening played a poor safe on the green 6 to give Austria a chance and they squared the match at 5-5.

A great break from Kempter left a nice layout and they made no mistakes to record a rare run out and go into a 6-5 lead.

There were two balls off the break for Ouschan but the table did not lay easy. Eventually the American pair had the chance to tie up the Austrians with snookers. Ouschan escaped from the first but Kempter failed at the second and Team USA cleared with ball in hand to move it to 6-6.

A run out from the break gave the USA a 7-6 lead but Austria took the next to take the match to 7-7. No balls on the break meant that the USA got to the table and they ran out to get to the hill.

Just when they needed a decent break they got it, and Van Boening and Morris ran out for a 9-7 win.

England Defeats German Billiards Team for Semi Spot

England 9 – 7 Germany

The billiards team from China moved one step closer to defending their title after a sound thrashing of the billiard team from Italy, 9-2.

Team England, composed of World Champion Daryl Peach and European No.1 Mark Gray, claimed a notable scalp as they sent Germany spinning out of the 2008 PartyPoker.net World Cup of Pool in an exciting match up at the Outland Nightclub in Rotterdam.

The German duo of Thomas Engert and Ralf Souquet were pre-match betting favourites but Peach and Gray had a little too much in all departments to record a super 9-7 victory to secure a semi-final match up against China, who earlier beat Italy.

There was plenty of drama as well as a little controversy plus some glaring misses from both sides. They shared the opening racks as the score moved to 3-3 and there was a good break from Gray in the seventh but England soon had to play safe.

Gray later left the orange 5 on and it should have been 4-3 to Germany. However, the score went the other way around as Souquet missed a straight forward 9-ball. Even worse for The Kaiser was that the 9-ball was left hanging over the pocket and England could not believe their luck.

That seemed to affect Souquet’s confidence and he made another error in the next as a missed 4-7 combination brought England to the table again and they moved two ahead for the first time at 5-3.

However, Souquet showed his class by making a 2-9 combination for 5-4. But his team-mate Engert was next to make a surprising mistake as his attempt on the pink 4 was unsuccessful and England cashed in to go 6-4.

Peach’s break came up dry and Germany ran out for 6-5 before Engert also had a dry break in the next and England made it 6-6. A poor safety from Souquet helped England take the lead and they then claimed their third in a row for 8-6 and were on the hill.

A controversial break was correctly called illegal by referee Michaela Tabb as two balls went past the headstring, with one of them rebounding down table and into the centre pocket.

Peach and Gray disputed it but had their chance in the rack only for Peach to miss the brown seven as England faltered only two shots from victory.

That extended the match by one rack but an excellent jump shot to down the 1-ball from Gray led to England winning the tie and they held their nerve to seal an excellent 9-7 triumph.

Quarter Finals

China 9 – 2 Italy

CHINA, the 2007 World Cup of Pool winners, had a comfortable passage into Sunday afternoon’s semi-final match ups as they made light work of a sub-par Italy, running out easy 9-2 winners at the Outland Nightclub in Rotterdam.

The Italians had been in fine form in the early stages of the tournament as they beat Peru 8-4 and then thrashed Korea 8-0, in only the fourth whitewash in World Cup history.

China, on the other hand, had to battle through two tricky opponents as they had secured an 8-6 win over India and then an 8-7 success over Switzerland.

Italy took the lead after Fu Jian-bo had missed the 6-ball, but the match soon turned on its head as China took control.

A 2-9 combination from Fu made it 2-1 before Italy were rooted to their seats as the scoreline quickly moved over to 4-1.

Italy were underperforming in this match as Petroni missed a long 2-ball and that mistake was punished for 5-1. Fu missed the 1-ball in the next and Italy claimed their second rack.

Both sides were struggling with their break and a 3-6 combination from Li, a former World Pool Championship semi-finalist, made it 6-2.

Petroni missed the 8-ball in two succesive racks and both times it cost his side as the score quickly moved to 8-2 with China ruthlessly punishing any mistake from the Europeans.

The situation was getting to Petroni as he looked upset at the costly errors as he knew his side were heading out of the competition.

China won the next rack to seal the victory by 9-2 and will now meet either England or Germany in the semi-final.
