Though pushed to the brink of elimination in an extended finals format, Iris Ranola came from behind and won the J. Pechauer Northeast Women’s Tour stop the weekend of June 21-22. The $1,500-added event, plus qualification to an upcoming Women’s Professional Billiard Association (WPBA) event, was hosted by Comet Billiards in Parsippany, NJ, and drew 32 entrants.
Ranola and Linda Shea sent Asia Cycak and Brenda Heras to the one-loss side of the bracket and turned to face each other in the hot seat match. This ended when Ranola surged past Shea, then leading 5-4, and won the next three racks, sending Shea to the semifinals.
On the one-loss side, Nelson and Emily Duddy advanced into the tournament’s final six slots with identical 7-2 victories over Zinnie Panju and Briana Miller. Duddy’s victory sent Miller home from the tournament, possibly to complete any sixth-grade homework that the 12-year-old might have shelved to allow her to compete. Miller will be going to the Junior Nationals next month in Tucson, AZ.
Nelson and Duddy then faced Heras and Cycak, just over from the winners’ side. Nelson advanced, but Duddy fell to Cycak. Nelson dropped Cycak into fourth place with a 7-5 victory and faced Shea in the semifinals, whom she defeated by the same score.
In the extended finals format, which extended the match to 9 games if Nelson reached 7 wins before Ranola, the two struggled back and forth to a 4-4 tie before Nelson surged ahead to 7, forcing the extension. Ranola fought back to tie it at 7. Though Nelson won the following game to reach hill first, Ranola closed it out by winning the final two racks.

Fox Takes BCA Qualifier

J. Pechauer NorthEast Women’s Tour / Sayreville, NJ
by InsidePOOL Staff
Ladies in the Northeast came from far and wide to compete at Prime Time Sports Bar and Billiard Café April 14-14. In the end, it was the two who traveled the farthest to play in the finals for one of the last BCA Vegas Qualifiers up for grabs—Dawn Fox from her new home in the South, and Meng Meng Zhou from Mainland China.

Zhou cruised through the field undefeated with wins over Kathy Friend, Buffy Jolie, and Naomi Fingerhut to match up against the two-tour Player of the Year, Morgan Steinman. Zhou dispatched Morgan to the left side of the chart with a 7-3 score.
Dawn Fox posted wins over Kiana Clark but was sent to the left side of the chart by Fingerhut. Fox then continued on her way with wins over Erica Testa, Palma Kogan, Pam Ogarek, Fingerhut, and Jolie to match up with Steinman. Fox left Steinman in third place with a 7-3 win to match up to Zhou in the finals.
In the modified race to 9, if Zhou reached 7 games first, the match would be over and Zhou would win. If Fox reached 7 games first, they would have to play out to 9. Fox built up an 8-4 lead over Zhou, but Zhou dug in to come back hill-hill. In the final rack Zhou made a ball but had to push out, and Fox answered back with a safe. Zhou ran out to the 4 but missed and left Fox a wide-open table to take the event and qualifier.
JPNEWT thanks Brian and Adam Seltzer of Prime Time Billiards for hosting this event and looks forward to returning in July for the NJ State Women’s 9-ball Championships. JPNEWT’s next event will be June 9-10 at Comet Billiards for a WPBA qualifying event.

Fisher Takes JPNEWT Finale
By InsidePOOL Staff
Kelly Fisher came from the one-loss side of the chart to take JPNEWT’s final event over Tina Meraglio at Hagerstown Billiards in Hagerstown, MD, on November 27-28. Fisher completed her comeback victory by overcoming a second-round defeat by road partner Val Finnie.
Fisher earned wins in the west side over Simone Hospedales, Kathleen Lawless, Pam Ogarek, Carol Clark, and Karen Armstrong before meeting Finnie again in the semifinals. Finnie’s undefeated bid ended with a hot seat loss to Meraglio 7-2. Finnie then watched as Fisher turned the tables and posted a victory to reach the finals.
In the finals, it was as if Fisher was the undefeated player going after the victory. Meraglio’s valiant tournament effort was put to rest with a convincing 9-1 by Fisher.
Finnie’s third-place finish was worth more than just the payout. She also secured the JPNEWT’s Player of the Year with her top finish.
Results:
1st Kelly Fisher $440
2nd Tina Meraglio $330
3rd Val Finnie $225
4th Karen Armstrong $125
