Chenman Replaces Frank at 2007 Philippines World Pool Championship
Araneta Coliseum, Manila, Philippines - Lee Chenman, the Hong Kong based pocket billiards player, has been granted a spot in the 128-man starting line-up of the forthcoming Philippines World Pool Championship following the withdrawal of American player Troy Frank.
Chenman, 28, finished in fourth place in the APBU Category 8 qualifying event in Kuala Lumpur last month but due to the pressure for places, only the top three players were guaranteed spots on the day.
However, the agreement between Matchroom Sport and the APBU was that if further players withdrew from the tournament, then the fourth placed player would gain entry.
The 2007 Philippines World Pool Championship takes place at the Araneta Coliseum, Quezon City, Manila from 3-11 November and features 128 players from 46 countries contesting a $400,000 prize fund.
Chenman, who spent most of his life in Leicester, England, emigrated to Hong Kong – where his parents are from - two years ago and has previously appeared in the World Pool Championship in 2005 in Kaohsiung where he won through at the tough qualifying school.
He now takes his place in Group Ten where he faces Roman Hybler (Czech Republic) in his opening game.
Chenman was also a quarter-finalist at last year’s World Cup of Pool in Newport, Wales.
2006 US Open Champion John Schmidt has also withdrawn from the event and his spot will go to Manila Qualifier 10. American player Shawn Putnam has also withdrawn due to medical reasons.
